A Keane Trail to Follow

posted by Chris on 2013/5/30 (Comics)

It's Dyluthus here, it's Thursday and it's time for a brand new comic as our beloved anti-HEROES still try to make their way through Lavakport.

Seriously now, WHAT could possibly go wrong with Kaal's pursuit here?

Great stffu, you helped me out so much!

Just want to add...my comment is not about the artists competence. Drawing is great, so are the text and jokes. And I KNOW they are doing it for FREE. I can't stress this enough, I am very thankful for their self imposed slave labor. For me, it is just the pacing. Maybe I am too dumb to notice, but I don't see much development.

I just like the whole comic so far...

Pen, I think what you may be missing is that you're hitting both ends of the pendulum with the last few comics and missing everything in the middle. I actually found the Keriss comic with the fast-food references amusing... but not the dialogue or the last frame, which just pushed it way too far. RL references should, IMO, be limited to background gags (like the signs). That way you can make a tongue-in-cheek joke without putting unnecessary stuff in the actual dialogue or storyline.

And then there's minor, nitpicky stuff like the 5th panel from today. Why is Kale raising his eyebrow AGAIN. There's nothing going on in his view frame that indicates he should be puzzled for a second time.

But aside from that, I actually like much of what you done. My final comment would be that we'd like to see some more resolution occur. There are too many subplots occurring at once.

Mordae, We do appreciate even the negative comments. Every artist needs a fresh eye to keep them honest. I just wish they were CONSISTENT, rather than slamming us one week for doing the very thing they said we SHOULD do last week. So i've kinda given up on it. I do agree with some of the comments, the pacing has slowed up a bit, so im working on finding a balance between wall of text and empty filler.

"Note to scoopers: The free ice cream is not coming at the desired pace, nor with the desired flavors."

Neither Zarah nor Dypen owe any of us anything, so while the complainers are entitled to their opinion, I can't see how a shower of negativity is at all likely to make the authors and illustrators suddenly cave to demands. It's the same sort of behavior I get from my three-year-old, and at best it earns an eye-roll.

I am glad they are keeping it up, for FREE. But like Xykeb, I am more interested in the story. Either it should be made available or comics should advance more plot per update. Its not the same as it was with Zarah, so lets just get over with it. The idea for dypen was to have steady updates, even if it meant downgrade on other aspects. But its not happening! So let us have some closure and give us the full story!

To be fair, most of my comments have been complaints as well. It's just that I try to give constructive criticism whereas Me does not.

I guess the other thing is that I'm not so much giving the comic a chance because I think it still has potential as I am letting my (comparatively) high opinion of the original author cloud my judgment when it comes to the way the comic is now. Not to rag on Leakingpen for no reason (because like I said this particular strip was pretty good), but I honestly don't think the story will ever be as engaging to me as it was when Zarah was in charge -- what I AM interested in is where he was planning to take the story in the first place, and while I don't believe Leakingpen will do as good a job as he would have, I do think it could still be interesting to see what he had in store for us prior to the author change.

I guess my point is that I do think it's possible to not have faith in the comic but still have a reason to read it.

I think that, in the case of Me, then the "don't read it if you don't like it" argument is invalid. I can't remember this Me ever making a comment that DIDN'T complain. At this point, I'm almost certain he's a parody of the other Me who posted here or trolling.

However, in most other cases, if you are still giving the comic a chance, and you read it because you still think it has potential, then I think that "don't read it if you don't like it" isn't really fair.

There's my ten cents (it used to be two cents, but one has to take inflation into account), and after this I'll stay out of things. I don't think most people want another full-scale debate, but it would be nice to have new (as in different, not just from a different person) opinions out on the table.
Xykeb Zraliv - 2013/6/3
Not to spur another "debate" (which I don't think it ever was in the previous comments but whatever), but as I've tried to get across it really is NOT that simple. I'm still genuinely interested in the story Zarah set out to tell and it pains me to just give up on the comic and its plot because I happen to have grievances about the current author (that's why I haven't done it yet). It's something that's troubled me a bit in the past -- will the story actually go the same way Zarah planned, and if not is there still any point in sticking around? And if the story does continue as originally planned does the make the comic worth reading to the end? I think I'm leaning closer to leaving as the comic goes on, but my interest in the original story tends to bring me back.

Now this all said...all things considered this strip was actually pretty good, at least relatively speaking. The comic was laid out in a different and interesting way and the dialogue was fine. I did wonder about why Kaal couldn't just fly through the door, myself, but that's a minor gripe.

So, you know. Not as simple as you'd think.
Night Templar - 2013/6/2
Hmm... Personally, I'm rooting for Kaal's stupidity. Remember how, in pages 91 and 92, he didn't even think to try floating through the wall. He tends to not be very observant about that kind of thing.

Good comic as far as I'm concerned. I like the blur in particular.
Avetzan1 - 2013/6/2
If you don't like it then don't read it. Simple.

(I won't be commenting on this comic again incase another "debate" appears like on the last few strips...)
Me - 2013/6/2
Don't make excuses for this poor writing.
Avetzan1 - 2013/6/1
Must be a large door then. Or just Kaal's stupidity. Or Kaal seeing that Lana & friend are being followed. Or whatever else...
Good effects though on the blur.
Me - 2013/6/1
So Kaal goes through three buildings and then gets upset when a door 'blocks' his way?
Tatsu - 2013/5/31
Yay Comic
Mad Lemmey - 2013/5/31
Great comic, where is this going?
Locnil - 2013/5/31
Nice effects in the last 3 panels. I don't think those have been done before?
