A Full House, But Nobody's Home

posted by Jordan on 2009/3/26 (Comics)

This is my little homage to Morrowind. For those who haven't played (or just don't get it), during your travels, you're likely to meet two half-naked Nords standing at the side of the road, who both have sidequests to offer. Strangely, they both pretty much tell the same story and are in the same region, so when you see both of them the first time, you start to wonder just how many more you expect to see...

Anyway, is it also strange that while I was making this comic, I was playing canasta online with Crazed? And is it even stranger that I managed to beat him twice, despite barely knowing the rules? Hmm...

In website news, we updated the extras section with a couple new pieces of fanart as well. So be sure to check it out!

Oh! Silly me! It's not over at all! ^^
Hastur - 2013/2/11
Oh... But it is. Huh, this comic is from 2009! I've noticed, sure, but it's so strange to think about - that I'm now reading an awesome comic written down ages ago, and now actually it's... over. It is! It has ended! And in a week or so, I'll be finished with it, and then what? The comic that really got me into D&D... Oh, how sad... Best not think too much more about it tonight...
Hastur - 2013/2/11
Heh, this was the strip that got me here, while I were searching the web for a good Morrowind-picture of a Nord for a quiz I was making... Huh. I've sure read a lot of this, haven't I? Tongue
Hm. It's really good, I hope it won't be over too soon...
T.Chicken - 2012/2/1
Too bad! This was set in the time before Nord started killing each other in Skyrim Civil War.

Yay, Morrowind! And actually there are three nords: Hlormar Wine-Sot, who wants his axe and trains up your strangth, Some Other-Dude who wants a remove disease effect and gives you his smelly hat, and Yet Another-Cursed-Nord who wants to kill witches, and I have quite forgotten what he gives, it being some time since I have played ES3
edhuan - 2009/6/21
Morrowind! Can't remember what I did to the barbarian tho...hmmm...did I kill him?
Niley - 2009/3/27
Hah! Yeah, I got the Morrowind reference as soon as I saw the guy.
This must be the silliest sidequest in the long history of silly RPG subquests!

Speak of the devil, I've been playing through this game...

Sorry Hlormar, but I'LL be taking Cloudcleaver, thank you. Very happy
Rutskarn - 2009/3/27
Yeah, got the reference as soon as I saw the Nord.

I always sided with the witches, myself, although I think the Nords were almost exaggeratedly evil-licious.

"Bah! That witch spurned my rape atte--er, advances! I'll have someone kill her!"

"Bah! I don't BELIEVE you want to give me my gear back! You die now, also that guy I hired to kill you!'

Jebus.
Trollop - 2009/3/27
oh well that's what you get for trying to get forward with witches
kpenguin - 2009/3/27
But Lana, you don't have ears.
Blakjak - 2009/3/26
Madduck: Ya sorry, got that mixed up.

Was aiming for something like:

F"nally we are back to covering our heroes... I mean, antiheroes"

So I was sorta hoisted by my own petard there.
elonin - 2009/3/26
Love the morrowind reference. There were more than 2 abused barbarians (or at least nords). There were 2 near caldera and 1 in the graze lands. That's not counting the one in mournhold who isn't actually a victem.
kres - 2009/3/26
Well Lana can ask for a new feat... Ignore Stupidity but than that would elimate the need for Kaal, and we lose all our comic relief.
MadDuck - 2009/3/26
@Blakjak
They're the protagonists. By definition, the protagonists are the main characters. Whether they're good or evil doesn't matter.
MadDuck - 2009/3/26
Until the bottom left panel, I was thinking Kaal actually did something, you know, smart.

I was starting to worry...
Brage - 2009/3/26
hehe TES3 Morrowind... Very happy naked nords standing at the side of the road Very happy
Ben Harrison - 2009/3/26
Hehehe, Kaal at his best. I miss Frank though.
Tanner - 2009/3/26
sorry lana...we can't make your ears disapper Sad
Sky - 2009/3/26
Heh, this reminded me of Morrowind and that silly quest Very happy
Blakjak - 2009/3/26
Great to be with the protagonists again... or antagonists... depends on how you look at it.

Anyways, great to see that Kaal is as brainless as usual. I wonder if we get to meet up with the witch? Bet that will be good.

Great comic, as always - cant wait for Saturday!

Paeris: What do you mean by constructive? This comic was funny, but from a plot-standpoint it only really showed that they're almost there.
Paeris Kiran - 2009/3/26
Finaly something constructive... there was to much of Veil and Aldran anyway
Face of Evil - 2009/3/26
Very funny. Very happy

“By the way, do you know there is one more naked Nord in Morrowind? But if you ask him about the witch, he will tell you that he don't know anything about witch and he's naked because it's too warm.”

Actually, I remember him too now that you mention it. If I'm not mistaken, he's in Mournhold. I remember laughing for quite a while after I met him.
fleazilla - 2009/3/26
Arg, OK next time I quote someone I will use square brackets around quote code instead of angle brackets. It should have looked like this:

I also got the reference. Happy
How does Kaal have ethereal cards? Are they all illusory? If Kaal knew what game he was playing, he'd be an awesome cheater.
And either way, Lana should know better than to gamble with someone that annoying.”

If I was Lana I would be more concerned about ethereal money. Wink

A preview button would be nice (if anybody is listening)

Rationally, Kaal can change his visible appearance because Ghosts can alter their appearance anyways to be scarier.

Still...Kaal is a bit too dumb to realise that.

Nice comic. Best in a while. XD

I liked Kaal's Poker Face. =P

Beginner's luck. Sad

Anyway, one of the best comics in a while. The "poker face" made me laugh out loud.

Vizen - 2009/3/26
I didn't even need to read the Author's Comments to know that was a Morrowind reference. I get so tired of those two.
Icedian - 2009/3/26
Yay, Morrowind reference! Very happy

Now I wonder too how Kaal is talking...
charl - 2009/3/26
Oh Kaal, when will you learn?
L. - 2009/3/26
Bwahahahaha! Kaal has the best poker face in the world.

Also I think this is my first first post in all my life. Now I know why trolls do it. It provokes a nice, awesomeish feeling.

And Team Antihero is ALMOST THERE! Do I sense a climax in the air?
